Paraeducator Certification courses offered this summer

May 8, 2012

Paraeducator certification gives in-depth training covering areas of behavior management, exceptional child and at-risk child behavior, collaboration skills, interpersonal relation skills, child and youth development, technology, and ethical responsibilities and behavior. Upon completion of the three-course series, you will earn the Iowa Paraeducator Certificate. The three courses do not need to be taken in order.

Paraeducator Course III: Roles and Responsibilities will be offered 5/30 and 5/31. Paraeducator Course I: Communication, Ethics, and Confidentiality will be offered 6/4 and 6/5. Both courses will be held at the Bettendorf AEA office, 8 am to 4 pm. There is 15 hours of additional work to be completed through online learning. Paraeducator Course II: Behavior Improvement will be offered in the fall to complete the series.

The cost for each course is $215. There is a one-time materials fee of $25 required for the first course. You can also take the course for no credit for a fee of $65. Purchasing the binder is encouraged but not required. Taking the courses for audit will not lead to earning the certificate.
