Coats for Kids: Ready for Action

October 9, 2007

The Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency is a proud partner of the David E. Lane Memorial Coats for Kids program. Last year, more than 1200 coats were distributed to children attending many of the school districts the Mississippi Bend AEA serves.

The Coats for Kids program distributes warm winter coats to students in grades preschool through high school who are in need of such coats. Slightly used coats are donated by individuals and through various school coat drives. The coats are first cleaned by Burke Cleaners and then brought to the AEA Bettendorf office for distribution. There is such a great need for both girls and boys coats in sizes 8 through 14, that new coats must be purchased with the money donated to the program.

If your school is interested in receiving coats, please choose a contact person to gather information regarding the number of coats and sizes needed. This contact person will also need to complete the attached order form and return it to me via fax or AEA van mail. Requested coats can be sent to your school via the AEA van mail or may be picked up at the Bettendorf AEA office. Coats may be ordered several times during the year.

If your school would like to host a coat drive or you would like more information, please contact Pat Kirkland at 800-947-2329, 563-344-6403 or pkirkland@aea9.k12.ia.us.
