Community Foundation of the Great River Bend Helps Keep Area Kids Warm

January 18, 2012

There are very few things that make an immediate and positive impact on a child’s life. Warm winter coats support the physical, social and emotional needs of students. A winter coat not only keeps the child warm, but helps keep the child healthy, in school, and allows the child to play outside with other students. Last winter, the Dr. David E. Lane Coats for Kids Program has provided coats to more than 3,300 coats to area children who would have had no protection from our cold Midwest winter.

The Coats for Kids Program has seen a steady increase in requests year after year. A $2,500 grant from the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend (CFGRB) will be play a rital role in the Program’s ability to accommodate the growing amount of requests.

The Coats for Kids Program Advisory Board includes volunteers from participating schools, businesses and the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency. Coats are collected, cleaned, sized and then packaged for distribution to individual schools. The program has provided more than 21,500 coats during the past eight winters.

We would like to thank the CFGRB for its generosity in helping to keep area kids warm, healthy and in school. For more information about Coats for Kids visit our website at www.qcacoatsforkids.org or contact Denise Zimmer at 563-344-6320.
