Enhancing Response to Intervention: Doug Fisher to Present on April 19
Pick up any journal, scan any conference program, even eavesdrop on a conversation between educators and you´re likely to hear Response to Invention mentioned. But how can RTI help students and schools improve?
Dr. Doug Fisher will focus on the next steps that will be needed to ensure success with effective classroom instruction and intervention. The Iowa Educational Summit held in July 2011 highlighted the importance of a quality instructional framework coupled with a rigorous and relevant curriculum in providing Iowa students’ a world class education.
Douglas Fisher, Ph.D., is Professor of Language and Literacy Education in the Department of Teacher Education at San Diego State University, past co-director for the Center for the Advancement of Reading at the California State University Chancellor’s office, past director of professional development for the City Heights Educational Collaborative and a classroom teacher at Health Sciences High & Middle College. He is a member of the California Reading Hall of Fame and is the recipient of an International Reading Association Celebrate Literacy Award, the Farmer award for excellence in writing from the National Council of Teachers of English, as well as a Christa McAuliffe award for excellence in teacher education. He has published numerous articles on improving student achievement, co-authored with Dr. Nancy Frey several professional books including, Better Learning Through Structured Teaching, Guided Instruction, Enhancing RTI and Content-Area Conversations (with Carol Rothenberg and Nancy Frey). He is a board member of the Literacy Research Association (formerly the National Reading Conference).
