Free Art Workshops for Students with Disabilities
In partnership with the Iowa Department of Education, VSA Iowa — the state organization on arts and disability — is offering free therapeutic arts workshops to Mississippi Bend AEA classrooms through June 1, 2013. Our Arts for Children (AFC) program has served students and educators through creative and performing arts sessions for nearly 30 years, providing meaningful opportunities for youth with disabilities and those who are at-risk to engage in the world of art.
This unique opportunity is available to classrooms with one or more students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and schools where more than 50% of students receive free and reduced lunches. Workshops are one hour in length and open to students ages Pre-K through 18.
Workshops are taught by experienced VSA Iowa art instructors — many of whom are nationally recognized and also have a disability.
Educators are welcome to choose an art form of their preference. We are happy to work with teachers to match the needs of the students with an artist who is able to integrate classroom goals into their lesson.
VSA offers a range of workshops in creative and performing arts including — painting, music, drawing, sculpture, stained glass, collage, mosaic, storytelling, music, creative writing, theater and more. To see a complete list of art mediums offered, please visit: http://vsaiowa.org/services/
