Superintendent of the Year -- Glenn Pelecky
Glenn Pelecky, chief administrator of Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency in Bettendorf, has been named the 2007-08 Iowa Superintendent of the Year. School Administrators of Iowa sponsors this annual award, which is in its 21st year. SAI Executive Director Dan Smith expressed, "Glenn Pelecky exemplifies educational leadership. As chief administrator, he has consistently provided innovative and visionary leadership to the educators and students in the area. SAI is pleased that his colleagues have selected him for this award." "I am comfortable accepting this honor as recognition of the work of the staff and board of the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, not an individual effort on my part. We have accomplished a great deal together," said Pelecky. "It is also recognition of the work of area education agencies across the state. Pelecky has been chief administrator at Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (AEA) since 1988. He was previously a superintendent at Raymond Central (Neb.) and Oxford (Neb.) schools. His early career included counselor, teacher and administrator positions within the Omaha (Neb.) Public Schools. Pelecky served on the Executive Council of the American Educational Service Agencies (AESA) from 1999 to 2003. He was named President of the organization in 2000 and served through 2002. His education includes a bachelor's degree in education from Kearney State College in Kearney, Neb.; a master's degree in secondary education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha; and a doctorate in administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was nominated by his peers and selected for the award by a committee of Iowa superintendents. Pelecky will be honored at a governor's awards ceremony in late spring and at SAI's awards banquet next August. SAI, a statewide organization founded in 1987, represents more than 2000 Iowa educational administrators. SAI's mission is to support, encourage and develop Iowa's educational leaders and learners.
