Quality Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Quality Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (QPDHH) is an approved adaptation of Quality Programs for the Visually Impaired (QPVI) http://www.qpvi.com/  Both QPVI and QPD/HH are processes for continuous improvement in school programs.  The process is facilitated by a trained outside facilitator and is collaborative and staff driven.  The educational and audiological staff at Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency was selected as one of the first two pilot sites for QPDHH in the nation.  The three year pilot program began in the fall of 2004.

Since 2004, the educational and audiological staff at Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency has:
• developed an electronic master list of students for each professional
• developed an entitlement statement for educational services for students with hearing loss
• updated job descriptions for teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing and audiologist
• developed guidelines for use of FM systems
• acquired and adapted tools that are available to guide decisions regarding type and amount of service for students with hearing loss
• established an electronic handbook with essential documents
• summarized all of the activities that have been completed into one document

Beginning in the fall of 2007, the Department is focusing on professional goals that have been developed to meet the needs of the entire educational and audiological staff at Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency.
