Audiologists:  The Hearing Department provides quality audiological and educational support to students, families, and local school districts. The Educational Audiologist provides comprehensive audiology services to infants, preschoolers, and school age children.   The focus is on supporting students with hearing difficulties in an educational setting; the student's hearing and listening can affect their academic success, communication abilities and psychosocial well-being.

Hearing evaluations may be conducted free of charge at the local school building, or may best be completed at one of Mississippi Bend’s three sound booth locations:

Audiological services include:

  • Hearing Testing

  • Hearing conservation programs for school-age children

  • Educational follow-up/Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT)

  • Participation in child study team meetings/staffings

  • Newborn hearing screening follow-up and testing of children birth-3 years
     

Teachers/Consultants for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing:  An itinerant teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing provides instruction and consultation for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The itinerant teacher provides Early ACCESS and school based services for learners birth to 21 years of age. They provide direct services to children with hearing loss as well as consultative services to students, families and school professionals. Itinerant services include evaluating children’s unique communication needs, providing additional instruction for the Iowa Core in literacy, listening, and communication, plus implementing and collecting data on outcomes and goals. Itinerant services also include instruction in areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing . The itinerant teacher also collaborates with the child’s team to ensure understanding of the child’s hearing loss and related needs.
