Being independent requires an individual to not only have monetary resources, but to use those resources to the best advantage. Following are a few tips and the names of some organizations that may be of help to you in budgeting and money management during and after transition to adult life.
Use the yellow pages in your local phone book under Credit and Debt Counseling or Financial.
Open an account at your local bank – Checking, Savings, or both

Community Services of Scott County
Representative Payee Program, to help you with your SSI or SSDI checks and paying bills
Illinois/Iowa Center for Independent Living
Personal budgeting skills training. Services in the Quad-City area, including Scott, Clinton and Muscatine counties.
