ESL/ELL Preparing our English Learners Conference 2023 - June 7 & 8, 2023 This English Learner Conference will offer opportunities for educators to learn about a variety of EL-related topics.  Local, state and national experts will engage participants in focused professional learning sessions designed to increase and enhance knowledge and skills of EL instruction. Participants will have the opportunity to attend three keynote addresses as well as choose which 60-minute sessions of interest they will attend, consisting of Academic Language, Using ELPA21 Data to Guide Classroom Instruction, Future Ready for ELs, Meaningful Differentiation, Effective Co-Teaching and Collaboration Methods and Social Emotional Learning for Multilingual Learners. INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES Classroom Management and Teacher Effectiveness June 26 - 29, 2023 Learn to effectively manage a classroom and enhance classroom learning using strategies that promote students meeting expectations, following routines and procedures, and eliminating wasted classroom time. The instructor will share and discuss factors that affect classroom control. Various strategies will be shared and discussed that shape classroom management. What Really Motivates Us? July 19 & 20, 2023 In the works of the author and authority on motivation, Daniel Pink, “Our motivations are amazingly interesting, and not as predictable as we would think.” Through investigation of the studies and strategies that Pink has uncovered, this course is designed to develop a greater understanding of what motivates us and how to utilize this in the classroom. LITERACY Keys to Content Writing - Grades 3-12 June 14 & 15, 2023 Participants will learn the best instructional practices to teach writing in all subject areas. Topics include writing basics, quick writes, stages of the writing process, sentences and paragraphs, summary writing, 3 types of writing (informational, opinion/argument, narrative), and writing from sources.  If you have more questions regarding Literacy, please contact Lisa Hawker.

Keys to Early Writing - Grades K-2 June 12 & 13, 2023 Participants will learn how to teach developmentally appropriate early writing skills to young children. Topics include: writing basics, engaging a community of writers, stages of the writing process, first steps - drawing/labels/lists/syntax and sentences, basic paragraph writing, and writing from sources. SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL Trauma-Informed Yoga and Mindfulness Practices to Promote Student Resiliency July 17 & 18, 2023 Participants will develop an understanding of the effects of trauma on a student’s body, brain, and overall well-being. They will also learn how yoga/movement and mindfulness activities, as well as other strategies, can be used with students in a way that helps promote the building of resilience to mitigate the effects of traumatic experiences.
